The Dory Shop

We build Dories. Day in, day out, one after the other. We have been building dories for more than 90 years now and, except for a few power tools, we build them the same way we’ve always built them, with the same wood, the same fastenings, the same oars, the same paint, the same everything! We like it that way. It works and it will continue to work as long as the sea is salty, and the ocean has waves.

After several generations of family business operations, the District’s first innovative real estate venture was conceived. Operation Sail, often referred to as “OpSail,” was the brainchild of late maritime historian Frank Braynard and IBMer Nils Hansell, who shared a vision of fostering global goodwill in an era of global uncertainty by bringing together the world’s remaining windships; they envisaged a nautical spectacular that would culminate in a parade of sails in New York Harbor.
